Chapter 18- The Invitation

Shivanesh was sleeping when his phone suddenly rang. It was a message notification from Amrita.

Amrita:
Shiva, see the news. Something big has happened.

Shivanesh:
What is the something big? Did someone killed a politician or something?
Amrita:
Worse. A plane went missing and it is a Malaysian Airlines plane.

Shivanesh quickly woke up and head off to the living room. He saw Sumithra and his mother was in front of the television.

“Is it true? Did a plane really went missing?” Shivanesh asked.

“Yeah Anna. Out of the radar. Suddenly went missing in thin air. Nowhere to be found,” Sumithra answered.

Shivanesh took a seat next to Sumithra in front of the TV. While watching the updates, Shivanesh heard a text message notification on his phone.

Amrita:
Saw? Really cannot imagine how it would be to be in a missing plane
Shivanesh:
Yeah. It could be fun actually. Not knowing where you are going to be. Of course scary but thrilling too.
Amrita:
Shiva. You and your jokes. How is it that you can still make jokes about all this?
Shivanesh:
You know me. I can never be serious for too long.
Amrita:
Yeah. But frankly, not talking to you before this was a disaster. I missed you a lot. Your jokes, your care.
Shivanesh:
Really? Woaw. But why didn’t you contact me before this?.
Amrita:
Sorry Shiva. I am really sorry. I was so carried away with my own emotions that I was not thinking about how you felt.
Shivanesh:
I am really okay now. But maybe later we can slowly open up about what happened during that time. Anyway, where are you right now?
Amrita:
Surely. I am at home now. Going for my dance class in a while.
Shivanesh:
Nice. If you don’t mid telling me, wen is your next performance? I was hoping I could come watch.

Amrita:
Next weekend. I will be performing in the temple near your place. But I would definitely be super nervous if you were there.
Shivanesh:
So you don’t want me to come watch you perform?
Amrita:
No. Shiva. You should come. It would be the first time ever that you would see me dance. You have known me for so long and you know of my huge passion for dancing and yet you have never seen me perform even once. My fault too for never inviting you. Scrap that. Can I expect that you would be there next weekend?
Shivanesh:
Of course. Count me in. I will definitely be there.

The night before the performance, Amrita could not sleep due to the nervousness building in her heart about tomorrow.

Shivanesh:
So, you are confirmed to be performing tomorrow?
Amrita:
Yeah. Are you coming?
Shivanesh:
Of course. Would not miss it for the world
Amrita:
Oh god Shiva. You just make me feel more nervous. I have performed so many times and got used to it. But now I am nervous like as thought I am performing for the first time.
.
Shivanesh:
Why suddenly the severe nervousness?
Amrita:
Because of you. You are coming. And it is your first time seeing me perform. What if you hate my performance?
Shivanesh:
I must be stupid to hate. Don’t worry. No matter what you do, I know you would be great. You really don’t have to worry about me liking it because I will always like whatever you do. Good luck.
Amrita:
Thank you Shivanesh.

Shivanesh was busy choosing his best jippa set to wear to the temple to watch Amrita’s performance. He has not gone to temple for ages and he was even surprised o himself. Suddenly he heard someone knocking his door.

“Anna, Amma was asking if,” Sumithra said coming in to Shivanesh’s room. She stopped whatever she said because she was surpre to see her brother holding a few jippa standing in front of the mirror.

“Are you selecting jippa to wear? Are you going for a wedding or something?” Sumithra asked.

“No, I am going to the temple,” Shivanesh answered casually while trying out the jippa to find the best.

“Wait. Did I hear it right? You? Going to temple?” Sumithra asked in surprise.

“Yeah. Why? Is it wrong for me to go to temple?” Shivanesh asked.

Shivanesh could feel his ears growing hot. He was afraid that he might need to tell Sumithra the truth about the reason he is going to temple because her sister knows better than anyone that her brother does not visit the temple much.

“Why? Why are you suddenly going to temple? Don’t tell me you are going to pray because I know you don’t pray,” Sumithra said. “There must be something else. Is it some pretty lady? Or are you going to meet someone? But if you are just meeting someone, then why are you carefully picking out your jippa?” Sumithra kept on asking, trying to figure out why her brother decided to go to the temple.

“Why are you so curious and trying so hard to figure out? Are you training to be a detective?” Shiavnesh said nonchalantly. He was really hoping his sister would stop trying to dig deeper. “Sumi, I just hope you don’t get it,” Shivanesh thought to himself looking at his sister from the mirror reflection. Sumithra was seating on Shivanesh’s bed trying to match two and two together.

Suddenly Sumtithra snapped her fingers catching Shivanesh by surprise, “Figured out. You are going to meet a lady you like in the temple. Am I right?” Sumithra asked looking excitedly at her brother.

“Damn. You are good. There is no way I can hide anything from you,”  Shivanesh said.

“I made the right guess right? Who is the lady?” Sumithra asked jumping slightly from where she was sitting.

“Shivanesh went to seat next to his sister and hugged her shoulders to contain her excitement, “Dear baby sister. No wonder you are the smartest one in the family. Yes. You got it right. It is already bad enough you figured out why I am going to temple, do you really need to know who the girl is? I will tell you later okay? When the time is right,” Shivanesh said to his sister.

Out of nowhere, Shivanesh and Sumithra heard their mother calling out loudly from the living room,” Sumithra. Is your brother asleep? Did you ask him what I asked you to ask?”

“Oops. I forgot. Amma asked me to ask you if you could help her out tonight to get somethings from the store. Never mind. I will tell her you have something on tonight. I wil go with her okay?”  Sumithra said.
Shivnesh hugged his sister and said,” You are definitely the best sister anyone could get. Thank you,” Shivanesh said.

“Sumithra pulled away from the hug a bit and said,” Don’t be too sure about that. Get ready and get out of here fast. You don’t wanna be late,. Owh. And where the blue jippa. You look good in it” Sumithra said while walking out of the room.

When Shivanesh went to change into his jippa, he heard his sister telling his mother loudly, “Amma, Anne cannot go because he is going to temple. He has something important to take care of. You can ask him later about it.”

Sivanesh just shook his head thinking t himself, “No wonder she told me not to be sure of that yet. This girl. What do I do with her?”

Shivaesh decided to just follow his sister’s suggestion and go with the blue jippa for the night. It was a simple jippa. As much as he wants to look good he does not want to overdo and seem like he was going for a wedding. He decided to groom his hair a bit. Within minutes he was ready. When he was walking out of his room towards the front door, his mother stopped him.

“Shiva. I have no idea why you are going to temple. But I do like this change in you. Just be careful,” his mother said.

“Okay, Amma. Love you. Bye,” Shivanesh said walking out the front door after hugging his mother.

Shivanesh got on his motorbike and rode to the temple with an excitement of seeing his princess perform.
